Bitlantis updates Kveik MIDI Step Sequencer to v1.5 with chord helper, mood-based progressions and chord inversions

Bitlantis has updated Kveik, a MIDI step sequencer plugin for drums, bass and melodies, to version 1.5.

New in 1.5:

Chords and progressions:

  • A chord helper shows every chord in the scale of the track as triad, seventh, sus2, sus4 and fifth on one grid, coloured by how well it follows the previous chord. One click sets root and chord type.
  • Mood arcs: pick one of 25 moods, roll a chord progression and put it on your steps in one go. The dice remembers its last rolls, so you get something new each time.
  • Chord inversions, set by hand or chosen automatically for the smallest movement from the previous chord. Chord names show the bass note (Dm/F).
  • Bass to chord adds the root one or two octaves below.
  • Click a chord in the popup to hear it before you set it.

Ratchets:

  • Ratchets per step with a fixed rate in note values (including dotted and triplets), distribution towards the start or end of the note, and velocity end and curve.
  • Ratchets now also run across long and legato notes.

ARP and pitch:

  • ARP patterns run over up to 5 tones and 3 octaves, the Arp lane grows to 15 rows when needed.
  • Right-click a bar in the Arp lane to transpose a step or shift it by octaves.
  • Pitch per step now covers three octaves up and down, with octave and semitone arrows in the pitch popup.

Standalone app:

  • Every track can play on its own MIDI port, so one Kveik can drive several hardware synths without a DAW. MIDI clock can be switched on per port, and devices plugged in while it runs are picked up.
  • ARP tracks can listen to their own MIDI input, so every arp follows its own keyboard.

More:

  • Duplicate a track with one click, the copy appears right below the original.

Fixes include the first note after pressing play being cut short in Logic Pro, blocks switching back after copying or adding them in block loop, a copied block playing the loop range of the original, a deleted note coming back with its old length, and the header scrolling out of view with many tracks.
