Rob Papen has announced the release of QUAD-2, an updated version of its QUAD synthesizer featuring a redesigned interface, a new Ribbon Controller and expanded synthesis, modulation and effects options.
QUAD originally launched as a Reason Rack Extension in 2014, before becoming available as a plug-in for Windows and macOS in 2020. QUAD-2 retains its two-oscillator architecture, with Phase Distortion and Wave Shaper tools controlled by two XY pads per oscillator, and offers up to 16-voice polyphony.
New features and highlights include:
-
Ribbon Controller with a dedicated 12-slot modulation matrix and advanced response settings.
-
User Wave editor for drawing custom waveforms, plus waveform selection in Shaper Mode.
-
A new waveform display.
-
43 filter types, with independent envelopes for the two filters.
-
An expanded arpeggiator with ratcheting, modulation and sequencing modes.
-
Three effects slots and 48 effects types.
-
More than 1,200 presets, with the original QUAD presets also accessible through the preset manager.
Price: €49 / $49. Owners of QUAD or QUAD-RE can upgrade for €25 / $25. The upgrade is free for customers who purchased either product after July 1, 2026.
Compatibility: QUAD-2 supports 64-bit AU, VST, VST3 and AAX formats on macOS 10.15 or later, including Apple Silicon. Windows support starts at Windows 7, with 64-bit VST and VST3 formats and AAX support for Pro Tools 12 or later.
QUAD-2 is also included in eXplorer-11 at no additional cost. Existing bundle owners can add it by downloading and running the latest installer.
