Salonebeats has released SLB Key, a free key and tempo detection plugin in VST3 format for macOS and Windows, available as a public beta.
SLB Key analyzes audio live on a mixer track. After a few seconds of playback it displays the detected key with Camelot number and confidence, the relative key, two clickable alternatives, the tempo with half or double time, and the matching keys on a Camelot wheel. For pads and other material without a pulse it reports “No rhythm detected” instead of a tempo. The interface is available in seven languages.
The current version 1.2.2 was retrained on real samples and beats. On 20 real samples it had never heard, the key was right in 16 cases. It is strongest on minor keys; major keys are sometimes shown as their relative minor, which is why the relative key is always displayed. Tempo detection also works on instrumentals without drums and was exact on 85 % of real samples.
