Scaler Music has announced the release of Scaler EQ Pro, the next version of its patented musical EQ.
Scaler EQ Pro‘s key-aware Harmonic Peak filters return, upgraded with new architecture. Users can select a musical key (or use audio detection), so that boosts act only on in-key frequencies, and cuts only on out-of-key frequencies.
New bass and high-frequency compressors have been added, and a brand new Live Band introduces MIDI control over the plugin’s harmonic EQ filters.
Many features are also retained from Scaler EQ version 1, including Magic Shelf filters, which boost mid and side frequencies in different amounts for bass and treble; and dynamic bands, which turn any frequency band – including the in-key Harmonic Peak filters – into a dynamic filter with Ratio, Threshold, Attack and Release controls.
New in Scaler EQ Pro
Harmonic Peak Filters
With your scale selected, this filter type acts to boost only in-key frequencies in an EQ band window, and cut only out-of-key frequencies, but this behaviour can also be reversed. Used gently, Harmonic Peak filters can sweeten and warm a sound; push them harder for more extreme, creative effects.
Regular Bands
It’s not all about those Harmonic Peak filter types: Scaler EQ Pro also features all the EQ filters you’d expect from a traditional and a modern EQ. Standard shelves, peak, high- and low-pass are here, as well as Flat Tilt and Tilt Shelf types. These filters have been designed to match the exacting EQ standard expected by today’s producers.
Live Band
By routing MIDI in to Scaler EQ Pro, users can take advantage of the Live Band, a new control mode that creates filter bands on particular scale notes. Perform single note boosts or use polyphonic MIDI to bring out multiple bands at once. The velocity of played notes plus the ADSR settings control the strengths of bands.
Magic Shelves
Matching the way audio behaves and that music is produced, these unique shelves boost and cut mid and side information in different proportions. A low (bass) shelf will boost mids more than sides, and cut these two elements in proportion as well. Vice versa, a high (treble) shelf will boost sides more than it does mids.
Dynamic EQ
As well as the new dedicated bass and high-frequency compressors, any band in Scaler EQ Pro can be switched into a dynamic band, including its signature Harmonic Peak filters. Dynamics controls are Threshold, Ratio, Attack and Release, and both compression and expansion can be achieved by setting positive or negative Gain values for the band itself.
Working In Key
Use the Detect button to have Scaler EQ Pro analyze the audio input and determine the musical scale using the same detection technology as Scaler 3. Three keys can be stored, making key changes possible. A piano keyboard display conveys which notes are being boosted (or cut), and notes can be added or removed to EQ in custom scales.
Continuous Gain Match
Activate this setting and the plugin will compensate for gain changes introduced by the EQ, matching the output level to the input, so you don’t get fooled that ‘louder is better’.

Scaler EQ Pro is available now in VST3, AU and AAX formats for Windows and macOS for $99. Existing Scaler EQ (version 1) owners can upgrade for $29. Upgrades can be made at scalermusic.com, regardless of where users bought their Scaler EQ license.
