Electro-Harmonix has released the Adrian Belew Echoflanger, a hardware analog modulation and time-based effects unit. The pedal is a reissue and expansion of the original late-1970s bucket-brigade device (BBD) unit closely associated with Belew’s studio and live work with King Crimson, David Bowie, and Talking Heads.
The unit reproduces the four core routing options of the vintage circuit—Filter Matrix, Flange, Chorus, and Slap Back—while adding two dual-mode operations: Chorus + Flange and Slap Back + Filter Matrix. These additional positions replicate the physical “in-between” switch states Belew used on his original stage units to achieve radical comb-filtering and pitch modulation. The circuit architecture features controls for Rate, Width, Feedback, and Tune (manual delay time bias), along with a master Volume potentiometer to compensate for the insertion gain loss common to early analog modulation topologies.
A rear-panel Blend switch enables 100% wet output for auxiliary studio routing, while discrete stereo outputs allow dual-channel spatial modulation.
