Autodafe releases Vintage Emulator Studio (VES) based on MAME emulations (VST3 & AU)

Autodafe has released Vintage Emulator Studio (VES), a free and open-source audio plugin that brings a curated selection of vintage synthesizers, samplers, drum machines and sound modules emulated by MAME into a modern DAW environment.

Rather than recreating the original instruments through conventional software modelling, VES embeds selected MAME machines directly inside a JUCE-based plugin and standalone host. The MAME environment handles the emulation, while VES provides the surrounding audio, MIDI, graphical output and host integration required to use the machines as software instruments.

The current release includes instruments from manufacturers such as Akai, Casio, Ensoniq, Linn, Oberheim, Roland, Sequential and Yamaha.

Pricing & Availability

VES is free and available for macOS Apple Silicon, macOS Intel, Windows and Linux, in AU and VST3 formats where supported, as well as a standalone application.

The project currently uses a MAME 0.289 source baseline and is fully open source.

ROMs and copyrighted firmware are not included and must be supplied separately by the user.
