artcode releases artcode DAW 2.0 – adds VST3 hosting and a Windows build

artcode has released version 2.0 of artcode DAW, a music production application for macOS and Windows. This version adds hosting for third-party VST3 plugins and a Windows build, and brings the application’s local audio generation to Windows.

VST3 Plugin Hosting

VST3 plugins load as instruments or as effects. The standard install locations are scanned at startup, including plugins placed inside a vendor’s own subfolder:

  • The plugin’s own interface opens and works as normal.
  • MIDI learn maps a plugin’s parameters to a controller.
  • Plugins are included when the project is exported, so nothing needs to be frozen or bounced first.
  • Scanning runs in a separate process, so a plugin that crashes during scanning does not take the application down.
  • Plugins that fail to load are listed with the reason.

Windows Support

  • Windows 10 (64-bit) or later, with the same feature set as the macOS build.
  • Project files (.artcode) are interchangeable between the two.

Audio generation guided by the user’s performance

artcode DAW passes the user’s own material to the generative model rather than a text prompt. The user selects a range of bars; artcode performs them with its built-in instruments and supplies that as the guide, together with the key, scale, tempo and time signature. What returns is audio that follows those chords and that melody.

The user chooses which tracks the model listens to, and how closely the result should follow them. This was macOS only in version 1.0 and now runs on Windows as well, where it requires an NVIDIA GPU.

Other features:

  • Seven instruments, including a Japanese singing-voice synth, a sampler and a 16-pad drum sampler.
  • A full effects rack with a vocoder, pitch correction and sidechain ducking.
  • Chords derived from a melody the user plays in, with bass, drums and a song structure built around it. Chords are chosen by how they lead into one another rather than by fitting each bar in isolation.
  • Stem separation into four or six parts.
  • Magenta models bundled and running offline.

Price & Availability

artcode DAW 2.0 is available now for USD 79. Owners of version 1.0 update at no cost.

artcode DAW 2.0 requires macOS 12 or later on Apple Silicon; Windows 10 (64-bit) or later. Version 2.0 does not run on Intel Macs, and version 1.0 remains available for those users.

The audio generation and stem separation models are fetched from within the application (about 11 GB) and are not required to use artcode DAW.
