Main St Audio Labs has released version 1.1.0 of Midnight Rambler, its free Tweed 5E3 neural amplifier stompbox for Windows, macOS and Linux.
Changes in this version:
- The two amp channels are now level-matched. Previously CRANKED came out louder than EDGE, which made any comparison between them a comparison of volume rather than tone.
- New input level meter. A neural amp responds to how hard it is driven, and the plugin now shows whether the signal reaching the model sits below, inside or above its working range.
- The interface is resizable — drag a corner, or right-click for preset sizes from 75% to 200%. Scaling is host-DPI aware and the setting is saved with the project.
- Substantially lower CPU use. The cabinet convolution now does half the work for a bit-identical result, its impulse responses were trimmed of inaudible tail, and the integrated tuner uses a fraction of what it did while reacting in twice as fast.
- The integrated tuner holds steady on low notes, tested down to the low B of a five-string bass, and its A4 reference, algorithm and mute settings are now saved with the project.
- A transparent output safety net, plus a warning when the session sample rate is far from the 48 kHz the amplifier was captured at.
Midnight Rambler remains free, and does not require AVX2 — it runs on any 64-bit machine.
