Fanan team releases Domina – Free Seeded MIDI Arpeggiator Plugin

Fanan has released Domina, a seeded MIDI arpeggiator offering “672,000,000 built-in seeded arpeggios”.

The arp responds to single notes but its greatest benefit is responding to any chord and delivering complex arpeggios based on them.

Domina builds a complete pattern from a six-digit seed: note lengths, rests, ties, accents and a melodic contour and plays it using the chord currently held. Changing the chord changes the melody without moving the rhythm. The plugin outputs MIDI only and is intended to drive a 3th party virtual instrument.

The figure of 672,000,000 is the product of 1,000,000 seeds, 21 idiom settings, 8 pattern lengths and 4 octave ranges, before any further shaping controls are applied. The same seed produces the same pattern on any system.

Domina includes 20 genre idioms: Latin, Folk, Gospel, Metal, Disco, 80s Pop, Reggae, Trance, House, Dance, Rock and others, three of them written in 3/4. An idiom biases note placement rather than replaying a fixed phrase, and 3/4 idioms are offered only in projects with a matching time signature.

Features:

  • Six-digit seed (0-999999) with random re-roll and direct numeric entry.
  • Three independent random streams for form, rhythm and pitch, so rhythm edits do not alter the melodic contour.
  • 20 genre idioms plus a free-running mode; three idioms in 3/4.
  • Time-signature-aware idiom availability.
  • Originality control, from knob-driven generation to the idiom’s own skeleton.
  • Complexity control for motif repetition, ties, metric accents and gap-fill.
  • Pattern length from 1 to 16 bars.
  • Rhythm ribbon display with draggable loop locators and adjustable snap (bar to 1/8 beat).
  • Note-length weights for 1/16, 1/8 and 1/4, plus a rest amount.
  • Independent gate minimum and maximum for per-note length variation.
  • Random velocity with separate downward and upward amounts.
  • Hold, which locks the sequence to the bar currently playing.
  • Mute Arp, which passes played notes through unarpeggiated.
  • Sort Notes, selecting between pitch order and played order.
  • Host tempo and timeline sync, or free-running internal BPM.
  • Continuous mode, controlling whether the pattern restarts after a silence.
  • MIDI learn on all knobs and toggles, including the random-seed button.
  • Selectable MIDI output channel and velocity scaling.
  • Six selectable interface colours, saved between sessions.
  • Twelve-chapter built-in guide.
  • On-screen keyboard and panic control.

Domina is free and is available in VST3 and CLAP formats for Windows, and VST3, AU and CLAP for macOS. The macOS build is a universal binary for Apple Silicon and Intel (macOS 10.15 or later).
