Matari Audio releases BUFFR – retrospective audio and MIDI recorder with offline processing

Matari Audio has released version 1.0 of BUFFR, the retrospective multichannel recorder for macOS, Windows and Linux.

BUFFR continuously keeps recent audio, system audio and MIDI available so a performance can be recovered even if you didn’t hit record.

That’s the core of BUFFR, under the hood it has a lot more.

From Sound To MIDI

The 1.0 release adds a direct audio-to-MIDI workflow. Users can right-click an audio selection to create melody and transient-drum MIDI, convert the full waveform or a frequency-limited Spectral Grab, or Shift-drag a selection to export detected MIDI with its original timing:

  • Improved chord, note-boundary and rhythm detection.
  • Cancellable background conversion that keeps recording and playback responsive.
  • Detected MIDI appends to the existing MIDI lane instead of replacing it.
  • Follow Audio Tempo builds a working grid from the recording’s detected BPM.

  • Up to two hours of retrospective capture.
  • Up to 16 audio channels and all 16 MIDI channels.
  • System Audio capture on macOS, Windows and Linux.
  • Global MIDI capture directly from your MIDI controllers, including when the editor is closed or a DAW track is not armed.
  • Independent audio and MIDI silence windows for separating performances without cutting held notes or slowly played chords.

BUFFR 1.0.0 is available now for macOS, Windows and Linux as CLAP, VST3 and standalone. AU is included on macOS.

The launch price is $49 (normally $89) for a perpetual license with activation on up to three computers and updates throughout version 1.x. A one-time 28-day trial is available.
