GANUE Audio has released Rivet, a free FET-style compressor for Windows and macOS built around a single idea: one classic compressor family, five generations, one plugin.
Rivet is input-driven. There is no threshold control – the signal is pushed into the compressor with INPUT and made up with OUTPUT, so the amount of compression comes from how hard the unit is driven, exactly like the hardware that inspired it.
The centrepiece is the REVISION selector: five voicings, each modelled on a different generation of the classic FET compressor family.
Rivet is built with GANUE’s Assay DSP Engine approach – real hardware units are measured, then their behaviour is rebuilt from scratch in original code. No samples, no impulse responses, no cloned code.
Revisions:
- A: gritty and early – odd-harmonic bite, softest and earliest ratios.
- AE: the most coloured – rich, refined even-harmonic warmth.
- LN: warm and smooth – even-harmonic warmth, widest knees.
- F: modern and tight – clean at rest, hardest knees.
- H: clean and neutral – the default reference voice.
Features include fixed ratios ALL/20/12/8/4 with all-buttons-in mode, fast reversed attack and release shown as real time, a sidechain section with HPF and 4-band detector EQ (internal or external, with detector solo), look-ahead/look-behind detector timing, an oversampled DRIVE harmonic stage, a GR LIMIT soft ceiling that reaches a colour-only “AMP” mode, parallel MIX, Stereo/Dual Mono/M/S operation, oversampling up to 8x, analog-style GR metering with PreSonus Studio One host integration, and 31 factory presets.
