Expressive E has released Noisy 2.6, a free update that expands the synth’s original acoustic and analog resonance engine into a five-way synthesis architecture covering analog, acoustic, FM, harmonic, and wavetable sound generation. The update is available now for all Noisy 2 owners at no cost.
Noisy is built around what Expressive E calls a noise-through-resonance engine: source material is excited by a noise signal and shaped through resonators, rather than generated from oscillators alone. That approach originally covered analog-style and acoustic-style resonance only. Version 2.6 adds four new engines and resonators: Unison, FM, FM Feedback, Harmonics, and Wave Map, sitting alongside the existing Analog and Acoustic resonators. The FM engine ranges from subtle harmonic movement to dense, animated textures, while Harmonics generates additive structures for more complex, evolving timbres, and Wave Map handles spectral morphing for wavetable-style sound design.
Beyond the new engines, 2.6 adds nine effects, five noise sources, and a new LFO shape to the sound design toolset. The release also ships a preset library of 1,400 sounds, split into 650 built for MPE controllers and 750 built for standard MIDI, spanning acoustic instrument emulations, expressive leads, evolving pads, cinematic textures, and electronic timbres.
Expression is the through-line across the update rather than an add-on. Every preset carries dedicated expressive mappings that respond to performance input in real time, whether that input comes from an MPE controller, Expressive E’s own Osmose and Touché hardware, or a standard MIDI keyboard. On MPE controllers, Noisy exposes per-note control over pitch, pressure, and timbre. On a traditional keyboard, the same expressive dimensions map to velocity, aftertouch, modulation, and automation, so the sound design still responds to played and automated data even without per-note MPE input. Expressive E positions this as relevant across live performance, studio production, and sound design work, since presets remain playable out of the box while staying editable at the synthesis level.

The five synthesis territories are meant to let Noisy move between organic and electronic sound without switching instruments. Analog covers PWM-style tones plus a new Unison resonator for thicker, animated textures. Acoustic draws on real-world materials and percussive sources for organic resonances. The three additions round out the range with FM, additive harmonic synthesis, and wavetable morphing, giving the instrument a broader footprint than its original resonance-focused design.
