Best Service Releases ERA II Vocal Codex for Engine Player

Best Service has announced the release of ERA II Vocal Codex, a specialized virtual vocal instrument produced by Eduardo Tarilonte. Designed as an expansion for medieval, historical, and cinematic scoring, the library focuses on early music aesthetics and provides solo vocal performances captured without ambient room reflections to allow for flexible acoustic placement within a mix.

The library contains over 14,000 samples totaling 8.5 gigabytes of content. It features four distinct vocalists, each covering specific regional or historical performance styles: Celtia and Heroica (performed by Celica Soldream), Bard (performed by Iván López), and Medieval Tenor (performed by Víctor Sordo). Each singer was tracked using a dedicated vocal chain consisting of a Kahayan 4K7 microphone, an API preamplifier, and a Kahayan Epsilon I summing mixer to capture transient detail and tonal accuracy.

All four vocal profiles include five true legato vowels (A, E, I, O, U) alongside multiple dynamic layers and expression controls. In addition to velocity-sensitive melodic phrases, the library incorporates 30 scripted atmospheric soundscapes that combine processed vocal layers with synthesized textures for pads and background design. Sound manipulation and playback are managed via the included Engine sample player.

Key Features

  • Four Solo Vocalists: Two female profiles (Celtia for softer, Celtic styles; Heroica for powerful, epic arrangements) and two male profiles (Bard for delicate historical music; Medieval Tenor for sacred and solo liturgical passages).

  • True Legato Scripting: Real interval transitions recorded for five primary vowels (A, E, I, O, U) per voice.

  • Dry Capture Philosophy: Samples recorded close-miked in a treated studio environment to eliminate fixed room reflections, allowing user-defined external reverberation.

  • Soundscape Engine: 30 sound design presets built from the source vocal material to generate evolving pads and historical ambient textures.

  • Expression Control: Integrated MIDI controller mapping for managing vibrato, dynamics, and articulation switches in real time.
