Menura Audio has launched two MDFX units on Kickstarter, bringing tempo-synced delay and reverb to DJ mixers, studio setups and live performance rigs.
Berlin-based hardware company Menura Audio has introduced the MDFX Delay and MDFX Reverb, two compact digital effects units designed for DJs and electronic music producers. The devices launched on Kickstarter on 1 July 2026, following the company’s earlier work on the MDMX modular DJ mixer and analogue MDFX effects.
The new units are intended to work with a range of DJ mixers rather than replace them. According to Menura Audio, the MDFX Delay and MDFX Reverb can connect as a master insert or via aux send and return, with true stereo operation over balanced 6.35 mm jacks. They are also designed to mount magnetically beside a mixer in either vertical or horizontal layouts.
Hardware effects with tempo sync and MIDI control
The MDFX Delay is a BPM-synchronised stereo delay with time divisions ranging from an eighth note to four bars. Its feature set includes reverse delay, stable self-oscillation, stereo spread, filtering, ducking and a TAPE parameter that changes the character of the repeats from cleaner digital delay to a more unstable tape-style sound.
The MDFX Reverb is based around a plate reverb algorithm and is aimed at hands-on performance. It includes a Freeze button for holding a reverb tail, as well as BPM-synced tremolo, shimmer, damping, high-pass filtering, ducking and a lo-fi mode.
Both units can lock to tempo in three ways: tap tempo, automatic BPM detection or MIDI clock. Menura says the automatic BPM detection is intended to work with vinyl as well as digital sources. All parameters can be controlled over USB MIDI, while presets can be recalled using program change messages.
Browser demos use related DSP code
One of the more unusual aspects of the launch is the browser demo system. Menura Audio says the online demos use the same DSP source code as the hardware firmware, compiled to WebAssembly, allowing users to test the Delay and Reverb in a web browser before backing the campaign. The browser versions run at 48 kHz, while the hardware runs its algorithms at 96 kHz / 32-bit float.
The demos do not include all hardware features. MIDI, automatic BPM detection and recording are specific to the physical units.
Built-in recording and USB-C power
Each MDFX device also includes a class-compliant USB audio interface for recording sets either before or after the effect. Menura Audio says this works without additional drivers on macOS, Windows, iOS and Linux. Power is supplied via USB-C, and the units can run standalone, including from a power bank.
The enclosures are CNC-milled aluminium with metal knobs, and Menura says each unit is hand-built and tested in Berlin. Early Kickstarter pricing starts at €340 per unit, with campaign pricing listed at €380 and expected retail pricing at €429. A Delay and Reverb pair is priced from €680 during the campaign. Backer units are expected to ship in early Q4 2026.
For DJs, the MDFX range reflects a continued interest in dedicated outboard effects that sit outside laptop-based workflows and mixer-specific ecosystems. The combination of tempo sync, MIDI, recording and browser auditioning may make the units relevant not only for DJ booths, but also for hybrid live sets and small studio setups where hands-on control remains central.
