United Plugins has released FireSnareVerb, a specialised parallel spatial processor developed by FireSonic. The plugin is available through the United Plugins store and introduces a dedicated approach to processing snare drums.
Traditional reverb plugins can sometimes wash out the initial impact of transient-driven instruments like snare drums, muddying the stereo field and disconnecting the drum kit from the mix. FireSnareVerb is built specifically for parallel bus routing, allowing music producers and audio engineers to control and shape high-impact snare tails while keeping the core transient punch intact.
The Multi-Algorithm Matrix
FireSnareVerb features a multi-algorithm matrix with 18 distinct algorithms grouped into 6 specialised categories. Each engine includes independent volume controls and three unique model variations (A, B, and C) to build layered spatial profiles:
- Big: Designed for long tails that decay rapidly to avoid cluttering dense arrangements. Suitable for modern heavy genres.
- Meaty: Provides a natural decay for projects requiring a weighty snare presence.
- Phat: Designed to strengthen the initial transient attack of poorly recorded acoustic snares without increasing the perceived room size.
- Roomy: Delivers organic, acoustic-style room ambience for lighter arrangement styles.
- Ringy: Features resonant, gritty reflections intended to help snares cut through dense garage-rock and punk mixes.
- Early: Provides short reflections that add stereo width and high-end spark without introducing low-end room accumulation.
True Parallel Precision
For optimal results, users are advised to instantiate FireSnareVerb on a dedicated parallel aux bus fed by a sub-mix of close snare microphones. Leaving the plugin’s Dry/Wet control at 100% Wet keeps the direct snare tracks unaffected by phase anomalies, allowing independent compression, saturation, and sculpting of the reverb tail.
Advanced Sculpting and Surgical EQ
To help the reverb fit into dense mixes, the integrated Enhancer section allows users to introduce analogue-style harmonic saturation using the “Warmth” dial, or apply an internal compressor to glue the tail to the transient.
To prevent low-frequency buildup, FireSnareVerb includes a specialised Side High-Pass Filter. This control removes low frequencies exclusively from the sides of the stereo field, keeping the core snare thump centred while maintaining clarity in the stereo image. A real-time high-definition Spectral Visualizer is included for visual frequency monitoring.
