FRCTL Audio updates SWRL to v1.2.0 with character voicings, a stereo imager and 19 new presets

FRCTL Audio has released SWRL 1.2.0, a free update to its movement effect plugin.

SWRL is six motion effects, each on its own fader, that you blend into one moving sound: chorus, spatial rotation, tremolo, diffusion reverb, rhythmic pump and saturation. Put it on a pad, a vocal or a whole drum bus and it starts to breathe.

The main addition in 1.2.0 is character voicings. Each of the six effects now has more than one, chosen by right-clicking its knob. The saturation can run as a tube, tape, a transistor or a wavefolder. The reverb can be a tight room, a bright plate, or a big dark cathedral. The full set:

  • HEAT (saturation): Classic, Tube, Tape, Transistor, Wavefolder.
  • DRIFT (chorus): Classic, Vibrato, Ensemble, Flanger.
  • ORBIT (spatial): Classic, Ping-Pong, Widener, Doppler.
  • FLUTTER (tremolo): Classic, Tremolo, Vinyl.
  • WASH (reverb): Classic, Room, Plate, Cathedral.
  • PULSE (rhythm): Classic, Gate, Auto-Pan, Stutter.

Every voicing is zero-latency, and each character’s default is its original sound, so projects saved in earlier versions load unchanged. Same six faders, a lot more to reach for.

Also new in 1.2.0:

  • A stereo field imager: a goniometer view of the stereo field, where mono reads as a vertical line and width spreads sideways. An on-screen button switches the display between it and the swirl visual.
  • 19 new factory presets built around the voicings, 85 in total, from Tube Warmth and Real Tape to Grand Cathedral, Vocal Plate and Trance Gate.
  • A Chaos control (right-click the dice) that sets how far each random roll goes. The randomizer now rolls character voicings too.
  • A settings menu (gear, top-left) for interface size, opening the presets folder, and license management.
  • The preset browser now marks the active preset and highlights the category folder it lives in.
  • Changing presets during playback no longer clicks.
  • Green menu highlights and a tidier top bar.

Availability

SWRL is $19.99 and the 1.2.0 update is free for existing owners. SWRL Lite, a free version running the same engine on two knobs, is also available. SWRL is a VST3, AU, CLAP and standalone plugin for Windows, macOS (Universal Binary, 10.13+) and Linux. Every parameter is automatable, it runs at zero latency, and it activates once with no subscription and no iLok.
