Jun Murakami has released Synth-80, a software synthesizer inspired by the Roland MKS-80 Super Jupiter (Rev.4).
According to the developer, the instrument was modeled using more than 100 automated measurement programs covering every circuit and parameter of the original hardware, with DSP tuning carried out alongside a long-term analysis of an MKS-80 Rev.4 unit.
The plugin displays all parameters on a single screen, and hovering over a parameter highlights the connected modules to visualize signal flow. The built-in effect section includes four different chorus models, reverb, delay, EQ, and a compressor, and is also included as a separate effect plugin, Synth-80 FX. For hardware owners, Synth-80 functions as an editor and librarian for the MKS-80, supporting patch bulk-dump transfer, a bank builder, and edit-parameter exchange.
A browser-based version of the synthesizer, built with WebAssembly, is available on the product page, where it can be played and compared against recordings of the original hardware.
Pricing & Availability
Synth-80 is currently on sale for an introductory price of $59 until July 7, 2026 (Reg. $99). It is available in Standalone, VST3, AU, and AAX formats (64-bit) for Windows 10+ and macOS 11+ (Intel / Apple Silicon native), with 150+ factory presets included.
