Sonora Cinematic has announced the release of Movimento Strings, a detailed chamber string library that brings a cinematic string experience to Audiomodern’s Soundbox platform.
Those who use string libraries to write for film, TV, or cinematic music, will be all too familiar with the issue of long, sustained notes often sounding too static or too clean. Movimento Strings was created to address this problem.
At the heart of the library is a 12-piece ensemble featuring 3 first violins, 3 second violin, 3 violas and 2 celli and 1 bass. Focusing on the tiny variations that give real string sections their organic movement such as players rebowing at slightly different times, dynamics gently fluctuating, tone colours constantly shifting within sustained notes, Movimento Strings delivers the natural, living textures that bring that extra sense of motion to music.
The Library Features Four Articulations
- Free Bowing: Instead of all players changing bow direction simultaneously, each musician rebows independently creating a rich, blurred and beautifully organic sound.
- Free Bowing Slow: Uses the same independent bowing technique, but with less frequent bow changes, ideal for slow emotional cues and evolving harmonic beds.
- Free Bowing Flautando: The independent bowing technique is combined with flautando playing, where the bow is placed closer to the fingerboard, resulting in an airy, delicate tone with a soft, flute-like character.
- Dynamic: Each player performs independent crescendos and decrescendos on the same note. This creates a beautifully undulating texture where the sound constantly evolves while the pitch remains unchanged.
Available In Two Versions
- Standard: Each of the four articulations are rendered into a ready-to-play mix that sounds great right out of the box. Users can simply load any of the twenty patches (which include single section and full ensemble patches) and start writing.
- Professional: Adds advanced tools like multiple mic perspectives for each articulation and an ‘EXTRA’ performance pass allowing users to effectively expand the ensemble with six more players while keeping it natural and organic-sounding.
Designed For Soundbox
Movimento Strings is designed for Soundbox v1.2: a customisable MPE sampler which is available to download for free from the Audiomodern website, and works on Mac, Windows and iOS.
