Fender Launches Motion 16 and Motion 32 Polyphonic Aftertouch Controllers

Fender has announced the release of the Motion 16 and Motion 32, two new MIDI controllers designed for deep integration with the newly rebranded Fender Studio Pro 8 DAW (formerly PreSonus Studio One). Marking Fender’s entry into the dedicated MIDI controller market, these units serve as the successors to the PreSonus Atom series.

Both controllers feature RGB-backlit pads manufactured by FATAR, offering Polyphonic Aftertouch for expressive control over synthesis parameters. While optimized for the Studio Pro 8 environment—offering dedicated navigation controls and an “Add” function for instantly instantiating tracks and instruments—both units function as standard MIDI controllers compatible with any DAW or hardware setup.

Motion 16

The Motion 16 utilizes a traditional 4×4 pad layout. It includes nine illuminated touch encoders for parameter automation and mixing, alongside a color display for visual feedback. A touch strip on the left side handles modulation, pitch, and effects control. The unit includes “Smart Scale” and “Smart Chord” modes, allowing users to trigger complex harmonies and over 30 chord progressions from single pads.

Motion 32

The Motion 32 adopts a layout similar to the previous Atom SQ, featuring 32 RGB FATAR pads arranged in a staggered keyboard-style configuration. It retains the Polyphonic Aftertouch and touch-illuminated encoders found on the Motion 16. The interface includes dedicated touch strips for pitch and modulation, plus specific pre-mapped controls for Studio Pro’s sound-shaping parameters.
