Avantone Pro has announced the CLA-Sub, a new studio subwoofer designed for mix engineers and post-production facilities. This unit features a configurable cabinet design and a custom driver aimed at providing low-frequency extension with controlled transient response.
Dual Firing Modes and Driver Design
The CLA-Sub offers a flexible cabinet configuration to accommodate different room acoustics. Users can orient the subwoofer in a front-firing mode for direct reproduction or a downward-firing mode, which utilizes floor coupling to increase output by approximately +3 dB. The unit rests on repositionable vibration-damping feet, designed to reduce mechanical coupling and resonance without requiring third-party isolation pads.
Internally, the subwoofer utilizes a custom dual-magnet driver developed specifically for this model. It features a stacked dual-ferrite magnet structure and a rigid paper cone. Avantone Pro states that this design minimizes distortion while maintaining high output levels and fast transient response.
Integration and Control
To integrate with various monitor setups, the CLA-Sub includes a sweepable Subwoofer High Cut crossover (50Hz – 180Hz) and selectable Thru Low Cut filters (80Hz / 100Hz) for connected mains. Onboard controls also include Phase and Volume adjustments.
Connectivity is handled via locking XLR / ¼” TRS combo inputs. The unit also features a Bypass Footswitch input for A/B comparison and a switchable Auto-Standby mode that engages low-power sleep after 30 minutes of inactivity.
