Reason Studios updates Reason to v13.4

Reason Studios has updated Reason to v13.4.

Reason 13.4.0 Release Notes

Improvements:

  • Deprecated OpenGL (used for rendering Reason’s graphics) in favor of Metal on macOS and ANGLE with Direct3D(D3D11) on Windows. There are several improvements related to these changes:

    • Better invalidation logic, meaning only changed areas are rendered—not areas in between.

    • Drawing of waveforms improved.

    • Speed optimizations on documents with many devices.

  • Audio rendering performance improved for DX and MME drivers which is most noticeable on newer Intel processors.

  • Save Song dialog is now a modal dialog in Reason (Windows).

Improvements for new users:

These changes primarily affect new users:

  • Reason and Reason Companion are now bundled into one installer.

  • The Setup Wizard has been removed.

  • Rack Extension license data is now automatically downloaded.

  • Changes to Preferences/Settings:

    • Defaults to the Audio tab.

    • Microsoft Teams and Zoom audio drivers now have lower priority as default Audio Device.

    • Reason Companion no longer defaults to automatically open at startup (this can be toggled in the Preferences/Settings).

    • ‘Open last song on startup’ is on by default (this can be toggled in the Preferences/Settings).

  • On-screen Piano Keys is enabled by default.

  • On-screen Piano Keys default position no longer covers the transport bar.

  • New default template song (“Sequencer.rsndemo”).

  • A new banner that prompts to open Reason Companion now appears if Companion is not set to automatically open with Reason and the user has never opened Companion.

Companion:

  • Color of Reason Companion icon changed to white.

  • Removed on-boarding flow so the user lands on the ‘Get Started’ page.

  • Minor changes to the ‘Get Started’ page.

Bugs fixed:

  • Fixed a crash bug which could occur when using the Speaker Tool on audio clips in the Edit Area.

  • Fixed a crash bug which could occur with similar audio recordings that only differed in vocal pitch edits and audio stretch types.

  • Fixed a bug where auto-routing cables did not work correctly with some Rack Extensions. Examples of affected devices: Synapse Audio Antidote, Synapse Audio AF-4 Analog Filter, Audio Damage RoughRider, Sonicbits Pump.

  • Fixed an issue where the splitter positions weren’t remembered correctly when switching between Rack, Mixer, and Sequencer view.

  • Fixed a bug where Reason couldn’t load song files if they contained a very large number of devices.

  • Browser:

    • The Browser now handles tracking of what is currently under the mouse cursor more efficiently. When clicking/moving the cursor, the Browser’s tool tips view settings are notably improved in “Tree View” mode.

    • Resolved an issue where Reason failed to start if a Favorite List couldn’t be accessed.

    • Fixed an issue where the Browser caused UI lag when the number of results in the item list became very large.

    • Fixed an issue where the Browser UI lagged when indexing/searching.

    • Fixed an issue where items in sub-folders in Shortcuts sometimes didn’t update after indexing.

    • Fixed a bug where it could take a long time for files in Sound Pack folders to be available.

    • Optimized how Author and Kind suggestions are generated for the browser text field.

    • Fixed an issue where it wasn’t possible to resize the Browser window from the left side when the window was positioned far to the lower left corner of the screen.

    • Items now turn up faster when clicking different locations in the Browser (Shortcuts, Favorite Lists, etc.).

    • Fixed an issue where the indexer attempted to read and parse information like tempo, length, and type from online-only files, which could severely slow down the indexing.

    • Fixed a bug where the device name for Kong was missing when browsing for Kong patches.

    • Fixed a bug where the browser would not always scroll and reveal the correct patch when browsing for device patches.

    • Fixed a bug where the browser didn’t always scroll to reveal the selected sample when browsing a sample slot in Redrum.

    • Fixed an issue where users could get a “Database Error” message when searching in the Browser.
